Roland Charneux recently won the Mentor of the Year award at the 2024 Grands Prix du génie-conseil québécois organized by the Association des firmes de génie-conseil du Québec (AFG). This award recognizes the fine work and exceptional involvement of a mentor in passing on their knowledge and experience to the next generation.

Throughout his career, Roland Charneux mentored and trained several generations of young engineers. Very generous with his time, he has shared with them his knowledge, core values, and passion for engineering, including his concern for the environment. As an advocate of energy efficiency, Roland Charneux has always put this value first, improving Québec’s built environment one project at a time since 1976.

This distinction follows many other awards earned by Roland Charneux over the years. For instance, in 2018, the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec awarded him the Grand Prix d’excellence, recognizing an engineer for their visionary qualities, innovations, and social commitment. He then received, in 2019, Canada Green Building Council’s Green Building Pioneer Award, which recognizes a deserving individual who demonstrates an innovative approach to advancing the green building industry.

Pageau Morel would like to congratulate and thank Roland Charneux for his exceptional contribution to training new generations of engineers. We are proud to work with an engineer so committed to the transmission of knowledge, one of Pageau Morel’s core values.

Testimonials about an exceptional mentor

“Roland Charneux is an inspiration and a unique role model for all young engineers entering the world of consulting engineering. His passion for excellence is contagious, as is his desire for constant improvement. […] My career wouldn’t have been the same if I hadn’t met Roland Charneux as a student. He taught me that combination of rigour and efficiency in the workplace could coexist with passion and teaching younger people.”

– Yan Ferron, P.Eng., M.Env., RCx, Certified Passive House Consultant, Director, Associate

“He is an inspiring and unequalled resource for engineering in Québec thanks to his limitless passion, devotion, and generosity towards his peers. […] Mr. Charneux strengthens his role as a mentor on a daily basis by supporting and exposing younger generations to hyperspecialized projects, the fundamental objective of which is to modernize building engineering and prepare it for a rapidly changing future full of energy challenges.”

– Rémi Dumoulin, P.Eng., M.A.Sc., Project Manager

“I had the privilege to be guided by Roland when I was a junior engineer, but also afterwards for my technical improvement as an engineer. I learned a lot working by his side. I could always count on him to offer innovative solutions to technical challenges. His concern for energy conservation greatly inspired me throughout my career and still guides all my decisions today.”
