Did you know? A change could affect your projects

The Québec Construction Code, Chapter I – Building, and National Building Code of Canada 2015 (amended) states, in article 3.2.9.1: “Where fire protection and life safety systems and systems with fire protection and life safety functions are integrated with each other, they shall be tested as a whole in accordance with CAN/ULC-S1001 […] to verify that they have been properly integrated […].”

What is the CAN/ULC-S1001 standard?

Effective in Québec since January 8, 2022, this standard specifies the methodology for verifying and proving that all interconnections between systems intended for fire protection and life safety functions are installed and operate according to their design criteria.

How does this affect construction projects in Québec?

Since the end of the transition period, which concluded on July 7, 2023, all new buildings must comply with the Québec Construction Code, Chapter I – Building, and National Building Code of Canada 2015 (amended). This means that all new constructions and, under certain conditions, existing buildings undergoing modifications after this date must undergo integrated testing of their fire protection and life safety systems in accordance with ULC-S1001.
