Energy efficiency study and implementing measures

Project description

PAGEAU MOREL took on a recommissioning project at the Palais des congrès de Montréal (Montréal Convention Centre) aiming to reduce consumption and energy costs. In 2005, the project was divided into two phases: optimizing electromechanical systems (recommissioning), and installing and following up on the DABO fault-detection software. DABO was developed by Natural Resources Canada to help operators detect operation errors and malfunctioning control components. In 2009, PAGEAU MOREL carried out an energy efficiency study for the entire building and since then works on many projects to implement these energy efficiency measures. This includes replacing a firetube hot water boiler by a partial condensing boiler, and optimizing the heating network.

Challenges and Solutions

  • Savings of 20.4 % after 3 years.
  • Existing and occupied building.
  • Flexible electromechanical systems to meet the precise needs of various rooms, exhibits, and conventions.
  • New electric steam boiler and hot water gas boiler.
  • Optimizing the heating network.
  • Modular systems designed and installed lengthwise to allow the distribution of services and controlled fresh air, according to the real occupancy of different areas.
  • Exhibition hall designed with dry and wet services, such as compressed air, electricity, domestic water, drainage and communication.
  • Optimizing large number of systems (ex.: 367 fans).
  • Implementing savings measures according to the seasons in order to optimize investments and savings.

Awards

  • AQME's Énergia Awards 2006 | Recommissioning
