School Expansion

Project description

Expansion of two heritage schools for the Montreal School Board in order to accomodate the new capacity standards and the increase of students. These expansions also consisted in upgrading systems, including many rooms such as classrooms, offices, bathrooms, gym, etc.

  • École Barclay (7694 Wiseman Ave.) – expansion of 3 700 m², which represents 2 floors, 14 new classrooms and a gym.
  • École Sans-Frontières (5937 9th Ave.) – expansion of 3 900 m², which represents 3 floors, 20 new classrooms and a gym.

Challenges and Solutions

  • PAGEAU MOREL designed the plans of this project on the REVIT 3D software.
  • Implementing sustainable development measures – an objective to reduce energy consumption by 25 % according to the Model National Energy Code for Buildings.
  • Efficient plumbing fixtures to reduce water consumption.
  • Efficient lighting fixtures.
  • Integrating the expansion with the existing school in order to harmonize the systems and reduce their maintenance.
  • Close coordination with all partners, including architects at NFOE.
  • Project carried out in phases in order to minimize impact on users.
