Constance-Lethbridge Rehabilitation Centre

Since 2005/Montréal (Québec)

Various modernization, retrofit and upgrade projects

Project description

Since 2005, PAGEAU MOREL carries out various mandates for the rehabilitation centre to facilitate the retrofit and upgrade of various facilities, according to the modernization programme and its desire to innovate with technologies and intervention methods. Affiliated with McGill University, the Centre built a new hall for employees, rehabilitation workshops with rolling stock, and a new IT services room. Our team also worked on emergency networks, entrance hall retrofit, new research rooms, replacement of the generator, etc.

Challenges and Solutions

  • Replacement of fixtures with modern appliances and water-saving faucets in an existing building.
  • Removal of existing underground oil system.
  • Existing light fixtures replaced with fluorescent ones equipped with electronic ballasts.
  • Architectural and electromechanical design harmonious with urban requirements for this protected institutional building.
  • Certain mandates required additional installations to meet new needs. For example, a resting room for the increased number of employees required the addition of a new HVAC system.
  • Very precise site surveys in an existing and occupied location during the design and construction. Several phases and tight schedules of sequence of works where electromechanical works played a key role.
  • Reflections on options that are the most technically viable while being economical.
  • Because of the lack of floor space for electromechanical systems, the team had to deal with esthetic and functional constraints to place them on the roof.
