Modernizing the fire protection system

Project description

For the Centre de santé et de services sociaux du Nord de Lanaudière, PAGEAU MOREL conducted studies for possible options to add a fire protection network to all six floors of the CHSLD St-Eusèbe. This mandate also included updating the fire alarm system, modernizing the building’s water intake, the addition of sprinklers in the basement and first floor, and infrastructure works (risers) in the stairs to allow the future installation of sprinklers on other floors of the building.

Challenges and Solutions

  • Establishing a strategy to limit impacts on existing clients during installation works and anticipating required services needed in future stages.
  • Construction in an existing operational building.
  • Interventions to minimize impacts on residents.
  • The presence of asbestos required a detailed intervention plan to ensure protection for workers and residents, and to prevent the dispersion of contaminants in the air.
  • Complex works related to past successive renovation works with many thicknesses of partitions and many levels of ceilings.
  • Extensive research to minimize impacts and needs and to predict future phases of work without repeating already executed works.
