Retrofits, upgrades, studies, functional and technical programme

Project description

Since 2003, PAGEAU MOREL carries out energy studies and expansion, retrofit and upgrade projects in CHU Ste-Justine’s various buildings, including most notably: the animal facility expansion, the uro-nephrology clinic, audiometric test booths at the Centre Marie-Enfant, external newborn clinic following child development from until age 5, plaster room fit-up, medical imaging room fit-up at the CHU Ste-Justine and at the Mère-enfant building, value analysis, tomography room, recommissioning and energy study of the operating suite, condenser and boiler study, modernizing controls and implementing a direct-flow exchanger and a water heater, and putting the ventilation systems up to standards in the orthotics and prosthesis workshop.

Challenges and Solutions

  • Existing buildings posing important constraints on the respect of current codes and standards. For example, the location of outdoor air intakes, the lack of space in low ceilings, and the presence of asbestos.
  • Construction in a building that must remain operational in order to maintain health services.
  • High-precision exploratory site surveys in order to avoid unexpected elements.
  • Special intervention in high-aseptic surgery rooms, adjacent to plaster rooms, a situation that could cause problems regarding the control of relative pressure in the rooms.
  • Use of fixtures and water-saving faucets, lighting with electronic ballasts.
